‘To advance on The Kulak means to get down to business and strike The Kulak so he will never get back on his feet again.’
Joseph Stalin, prior to his death in 1953.
The purge of ‘The Kulak’ – peasant victims of Stalin’s orgy of terror on ‘Capitalist Land Peasants’ commonly regarded as enemies of The Soviet State.
The Kulaks’ fate was incarceration in the dreaded Siberian Gulags, forced labor camps where many were worked to death.
Marc Rodin, European Correspondent for a London newspaper is commissioned to track down an old former Cold War Spy who worked for MI6 during the disastrous ‘Operation Jungle’ at the height of The Cold War.
The West was dangerously close to loosing the battle of wits, and particularly in Berlin. MI6 assumed they could insert agents through the back door of Russia via The Baltic States of The Soviet Union to gather vital intelligence.
Marc tracks his adversary across Southern France from The Pyrenees to Provence. His journey through present day France uncovers old spies who emerge from the shadows. A web of mystery and intrigue confronts him amongst the clandestine world of espionage including within Marc’s own family. Their secrets as far back as WW2 are exposed – secrets Marc had not been privy to until now.
EYE SPY a historical fiction tells of a MI6 operation which was fatally flawed, resulting in serious loss of agents during The Cold War in The Baltic States.
British Intelligence suspended the operation in 1955 due to increased loss of agents resulting in suspicions the operation had been compromised by The Soviet KGB.

Ray has written another great story with a theme framed around events in France prior to and following the Cold War period of intense mistrust by the West of Stalin's intentions. Having visited many of the places mentioned in the text I was impressed by the geographical and physical accuracy of settings woven into a good storyline incorporating suspicion, intrigue, interservice rivalry, French mannerisms and cuisine and a gentle love story. A lot of research has gone into this book and the theme incorporates associations with history and events which occurred in more recent times. EYE SPY edition by RAY DRAYTON Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Exciting story that held my interest from start to finish.Written in his usual descriptive high standards that make you feel you are there with the characters, and that you can smell the food they are eating.
If you enjoy historical fiction you will certainly enjoy Eye Spy.
This was a great read. The story is mainly set in france during the cold war/Stalin era and the more modern times and the way the author has joined it all together is brilliant. I read this book fairly quickly as I needed to know what was going to happen on the next page.. well done ray Drayton an easy 5 stars from me. Highly recommend
Good story line, well written, a really good read
EYE SPY .Ive had the privilege to read several of Ray Drayton books and have found them to be exhilarating page turners so when I saw EYE SPY now available on I wondered if judging by the title it may be more suited to men.Books on espionage are not usually in my repertoire however I was intrigued by Rays description so I purchased the book. The main character Marc Roden works as a European correspondent for a London newspaper. His editor ask's him to take on a very different role,to find a former M16 spy in France.Marc is totally unaware he is also under surveillance. Is it for his wellbeing or not?? EYE SPY weaves through many of my emotions, excitement, shock, coldness, grief, and relief. This is an immensely powerful read, one that would make an award winning film.I thoroughly recommend reading EYE SPY and congratulate RAY DRAYTON on yet another BEST SELLER.
